Johanna was born on Bonaire but grew up on Saba, she speaks both Dutch and English. Wim, who is Dutch by birth, grew up in California and lived in France for several years. He is fluent in English, Dutch, and French.
The college sweethearts met at Webster, an American university in Leiden, Holland. Wim fell in love with the island when he came down to meet Johanna’s family. After graduating from university, Johanna and Wim got married on Saba in August 2002, after which the two started working at Juliana’s Hotel in December 2002.
Johanna and Wim work side by side and are both very busy with the hotel’s daily activities; their mission is to make your stay on Saba a peaceful and relaxed, yet exciting and unforgettable experience.
It was Johanna’s dream as a young girl growing up in the Caribbean to move back home after college and run her own hotel and Wim, who grew up in a family that owned hotels, also dreamed of one day owning his very own. The two have made their dreams come alive at Juliana’s Hotel. At some hotels, you might be invited to the manager's cocktail party, but at Juliana’s hotel you are invited to the managers' home and become part of their daily lives.
